Neurotic Writers Discuss Hell Bar [Video]
Finally a clip from that Siberia documentary in which pretty much every newspaper scribe in NYC waxes nostalgic about the dirty little basement bar that killed them. Special guest star, one former Page Sixer who seriously should never appear on camera, ever.

And Just For the Hell of It: Black Sabbath, 1970 []
From the ancient, nameless, Lovecraft days of cyclopian monoliths and Other Gods, here is Black Sabbath performing "Iron man" 38 years ago. Why? Coz summer weekends must rock! That's why!

The Week We Climbed Too Close to the Sun [Week In Review]
Oh, and that lady's husband? He had a rough week. Because he runs with a rough crowd. These are the sort of people we are trying to warn you about, readers!
We were full of warnings this week! Here is what not to do when you are famous and do drugs. For a better example of damage control, look to that girl from The Bad News Bears.
This is the dead land
This is cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man’s hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.

Make The Happiest Playlist In The World [Friday Mixtape]
I've primed it with two of my happiest songs, the Polyphonic Spree's "Light & Day" and Apples in Stereo's "Energy."
Of course you can write your own dream playlist below, but I really want to hear stories — has anyone ever been really embarrassed by their happy playlist, or deleted a song after listening closer and realizing it was sad? Personally, I have plenty of bittersweet songs in my "happy" list.

Xgau in Interest Conflict Conflag [Full Disclosure]
This week's award for most amusing disclosure goes to former Village Voice music critic and section editor (and DEAN OF AMERICAN ROCK CRITICS) Robert Christgau, reviewing a novel by former Ed Park. "I VOLUNTEERED TO REVIEW THIS novel by my former Village Voice co-worker Ed Park because I assumed the conflicts of interest would be so blatant they’d implode—a roman à clef, in which I myself might play a minor role, about the alt-weekly where I got fired the same day young Ed did." Sadly, everything is very fictionalized. Doesn't Ed get the point of these books? Score-settling, not literature! [NYO]
