Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnamese: Thành Phố Hồ Chí Minh), commonly known as Saigon or by the abbreviation HCMC, is the largest city in Vietnam and the former capital of the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). It has rebounded from its Vietnam War notoriety to become an interesting hub of Vietnamese culture, with indigenous arts and crafts to tempt the visitor. (more...)
Off the beaten path
Sheki is a city in Sheki Rayonu in northwest Azerbaijan. While small, it has a whole lot to offer by way of historic attractions, and its setting in the rolling, thickly forested foothills next to the dramatic, snow-capped peaks of the Greater Caucasus is stunning. But more than anything, the relaxed pace of life evident in Sheki's central market and tea houses makes the city a welcome respite from whatever cares you may have. (more...)

Heathrow T5 opens

The new Terminal 5 at London's Heathrow Airport opens, with most (but not all) British Airways flights shifting to it. Many other airlines will also change terminals in the following months. The new terminal is reachable by Tube or Heathrow Express. (more...)

Fire Destroys Seoul's Iconic City Gate

A fire which was started late last night has destroyed the wooden pavilion on top of Seoul's Namdaemun, which is known as Korea's National Treasure No. 1. Police are investigating and arson is suspected. The government estimates it will take 2-3 years to restore the gate to its original splendour. (more...)
