Wikitravel German-language version publishes 3,000th article

April 6, 2007 (The Internet) – Wikitravel, a project to create a free, complete, up-to-date worldwide travel guide, has added the 3,000th article to its fast-growing German-language portal. The German-language version of Wikitravel (http://wikitravel.org/de/Hauptseite) was launched in October 2004 and has quickly grown to be one the one of the largest and most active language versions. The site currently has more than 1,300 registered users who have made more than 85,000 edits to the database.

“We’re proud that this innovative wiki has grown into such a valuable resource for the German-speaking community,” said Evan Prodromou, founder of Wikitravel. “In just a few years’ time, German Wikitravel has become one of the most valuable German-language travel guides, on or off the Web.” Wikitravel, built in collaboration by Wikitravellers from around the globe, has more than 28,000 open source travel guides in 16 languages, covering destinations ranging from major cities to tiny islands and off-the-beaten-path villages. All guides are shared by the community under a Creative Commons license. Recently featured destination guides include diverse locations such as Guinsa, Dresden, Phnom Penh, and Mobile, Ala.
